August is delivering. This weekend packs in a free all-day jazz festival at Danehy Park, a Harvard Square takeover with 60+ vintage vendors and live music, and a Bollywood concert at Lexington's Depot Square to kick off India Independence Day week — all on the same Saturday. Friday night, the Perseids are still lighting up the sky with a new moon making conditions about as dark as it gets. And if you feel like staying in the dark for different reasons, Cambridge's Brattle Theatre is deep in its summer Hitchcock series. Big weekend — here's how to spend it.

🌟 Hidden Gem Activity
Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary, Lincoln. Run by Mass Audubon, Drumlin Farm is a working farm and wildlife sanctuary sitting on 232 acres in Lincoln — and a lot of families inside 128 have driven past the signs on Route 117 without ever stopping. Kids can visit farm animals (cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys), wander the trails through fields and woods, and catch whatever's happening with the season's harvest. Lexington Abbott's Frozen Custard — Lexington | The beloved frozen custard shop at 1853 Massachusetts Ave in Lexington Center has permanently closed after six years, confirmed by the Lexington Observer on August 6. Deluxe Town Diner — Watertown. On Mt. Auburn Street in Watertown, Deluxe Town Diner is the real thing: a classic American diner, unchanged and unfussy. The corned beef hash is the move — crispy-edged, made from scratch, and served with eggs any style. It fills up fast on weekends and it's been a neighborhood institution for decades.
