Treaty Day 250 in Watertown · ArtBeat festival in Somerville · John Carpenter double feature at the Brattle · Archery on a historic Waltham estate
Summer in 128 has a full head of steam this weekend. Saturday is the anchor — Watertown hosts a genuinely once-in-250-years celebration of the nation's first-ever treaty, right at the Mosesian Center, while Davis Square transforms into Somerville's biggest street festival of the year. If you'd rather spend Sunday morning with a bow and arrow on the grounds of a Georgian mansion, that's also very much on the table. Oh, and the Brattle is running a Harry Dean Stanton centennial program all weekend that includes Alien, Escape from New York, and Christine back to back — which is either a perfect Saturday or a cautionary tale, depending on your constitution.

🌟 Hidden Gem Activity
Watertown Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge/Watertown. Yes, a cemetery — hear us out. Mount Auburn is a 175-acre National Historic Landmark that doubles as one of the region's best birding spots, a sculpture garden, and a quiet natural escape five minutes from Watertown Square. Kids love the rolling paths, the ponds, the tower with panoramic views, and the occasional red-tailed hawk sighting. The entrance map makes it feel like an adventure. Ages all. Free (small fee for tower). mountauburn.org

New Openings
|
Cambridge Vida Coffee — Cambridge | This indie coffee shop opened back in May in a former Dunkin' space near Kendall Square/MIT, and it's earned its place on your regular rotation. The menu leans Asian-influenced: fruity matcha lattes (blueberry, mango, strawberry), hojicha roasted tea, custard and pineapple buns, and savory brunch sandwiches. It's the kind of neighborhood coffee spot Kendall desperately needed. 222 Broadway, Cambridge. Instagram

Closings
|
Cambridge Tampopo — Cambridge | After 34 years in the Porter Exchange food court — Cambridge's beloved "Little Tokyo" — Tampopo closed at the end of June. Owner Yasumasa Ito opened the katsu don and noodle spot in 1992 and is now retiring. If you were a regular, you already know. If you weren't, that's the thing about these places — you don't always realize what they meant until they're gone. Axios Boston

💎 Hidden Gem Spotlight
Il Capriccio — Waltham. Moody Street gets all the attention, but Il Capriccio has been quietly running one of the best Italian kitchens in the entire metro area for decades. This is not red-sauce-and-bread-basket Italian — it's serious, Northern Italian cooking with an exceptional wine list and a room that feels like a special occasion without requiring one. Order the housemade pasta. Linger. The fact that it's not constantly name-dropped in Boston food media is the city's loss and Waltham's gain. 704 Main St, Waltham. yelp.com
